Erie Otters News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania - The Erie Otters climbed up the standings by earning a point Wednesday afternoon at the seventh annual School Day Game at the Erie Insurance Arena but fell short in a shootout to the Guelph Storm in the 4-3 loss.
The Otters rolled out of the gate with the game's first five shots on goal and would grab a 1-0 lead on Daniel D'Amato's sixth of the year at 10:16. Guelph stormed back with the games next two goals to take a 2-1 lead with Cedric Ralph's power play tally at 11:55 and Ty Collins backdoor shot at 17:22 of the first. Erie would use a power play of their own to even the game at two apiece with Chad Yetman's 12th of the year with just two seconds remaining in the frame, extending his goal scoring streak to a seventh game.
The game tilted back in the Otters favor as Jack Duff netted his second of the campaign at 11:49 of the second period following a shift of sustained offensive zone pressure from Erie's fourth line. Guelph would once again answer as Andrei Bakanov would bury his third of the season to tie the game at three before the end of the middle frame.
Erie would go on to outshoot Guelph 48-31 on the game as the afternoon shifted from regulation to overtime, and then to shootout. Storm goaltender Nico Daws was strong the entire way stopping 45 shots and then denying three Erie shooters in the shootout. Cam Hillis would net the shootout winner in the fourth round of the contest to claim the extra point in a 4-3 shootout final.
The Erie Otters will remain at home for the weekend with a Midwest Division rivalry tilt against the London Knights on Saturday, October 26th at the Erie Insurance Arena.
