Evansville Otters News Release

The Evansville Otters fell into a first inning hole they could not recover from in falling to the Chillicothe Paints 7-6.

The Paints scored four in the first frame as Otters starter Ben Foster walked the first three batters of the game and Chillicothe sent eight men to the plate.

The Otters climbed back in the game with a pair of two-run homers in the second and third innings off the bats of Trask Munoz and Juan Downing. However, the Paints countered with homers of their own in the bottom half of each inning to make it 6-4.

The teams traded runs in the bottom of the sixth when the Paints went up 7-4. The Otters scored a single run on a Downing sacrifice fly to make 7-5.

The Otters loaded the bases in the eighth, but were only able to get one run out of it as Ricky Clinton was thrown out at the plate to keep it a 7-6 Paints lead.

Luke Palmer allowed a walk to Downing in the ninth, but then was able to get Cole Hilt to strike out and Brian McKenna to ground out to preserve the victory.

John Martinez (1-0) got the win for the Paints. Ben Foster (0-1) took the loss for Evansville.

The home opener is Fifth-Third Bank Opening Night May 28th at 7:05 p.m. against the Ohio Valley Redcoats. The Otters will be welcoming their millionth fan in team history on opening night as well.
