Otters complete flurry of activity

Evansville Otters News Release

The Evansville Otters completed a busy 18-hour period of player activity on Monday morning by signing two new players to the active roster.

The series of player moves started around 9 p.m. on Sunday evening. After the Otters and Gateway Grizzlies finished off their three game set with the Otters winning 8-2, Evansville dealt pitcher Robby Read to Gateway for future considerations. Read was 2-0 this season with a respectable ERA of 3.44, but had not gotten past the second inning in either of his last two starts.

With the roster at 23, the Otters filled the spot by signing Chris Rich, an infielder from Arkansas State. Rich hit .339 for the Indians in 2005 with 11 homers and 49 RBI. He only struck out 19 times in 230 at-bats.

The Otters then signed pitcher Justin Jordan out of Belmont University. Jordan started 13 games for the Bruins in 2005 going 6-5 with a 5.10 ERA. He completed two games to lead the Belmont staff. In 83 innings, Jordan walked just 13 batters.

In order to make room for Jordan, Evansville released catcher Nick Jaksa. Jaksa had played in three games for the Otters this season, twice as a pinch hitter and once as a pinch runner. He went 0-for-1 with a walk.

The Otters make these moves in advance of a six-game road trip that will take them to Rockford and Kalamazoo. All six games can be heard on 91.5 WUEV. Tuesday's game in Rockford will start at 7:05 p.m.
