Erie Otters News Release

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League have announced that over 1,100 new and gently used books were collected and donated towards the Crime Victim Center of Erie County after the first Literacy Day Book Drive for the game on March 6.

The Otters would like to thank State Farm agents Natalie Braddock, Linda Marsden, Bob Martin, Howard McConnell, Tom McConnell, Mary Beth McMaster, Mathew Phillips, Todd Powers, Vince Ragosta and Chris Wertz for their support in the inaugural Literacy Day Book Drive. Powers collected the most books during the drive and dropped the ceremonial puck before the game on March 6.

The books collected will be donated to various Erie-area charities, including the Crime Victim Center of Erie County.

Otters fans have contributed through other philanthropic ventures throughout the season. The Third Annual Hockey for the Hungry food drive collected over 2,000 pounds of food for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania. The Third Annual Teddy Bear Toss collected 4,618 stuffed animals for charity, more than the combined total of the previous two seasons. The inaugural Macaroni Madness promotion collected over 2,300 boxes of macaroni and cheese towards the Erie City Mission.

The Otters host the Plymouth Whalers Friday night at Tullio Arena. Saturday night, the Kitchener Rangers are in town for Fan Appreciation Night. The first 500 fans will receive a drawstring cinch backpack. There will be great giveaways and prizes throughout the night, headlined by a $500 gas card to Travel Centers of America. Following the game, there is a concert with The O'Needers. Fan Appreciation Night is sponsored by O'Charley's, Panera Bread, Greenfield Basket Factory, Iron Workers Local Union No. 3, Erie General Electric Credit Union and The Northwest Pennsylvania CW.

Individual tickets for the 2011 OHL Playoffs are now on sale. Playoff dates and opponents are yet to be determined. Tickets can be ordered through Ticketmaster, the Civic Center Box Office, online at ottershockey.com or by calling 814-452-4857.
