Ottawa Rapids announce 2009 schedule

Ottawa - The Ottawa Rapids released their schedule for the upcoming 2009 Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball (Can-Am) season today. Ottawa will open its 2009 regular season at home on Thursday, May 28 against the New Jersey Jackals for a four-game series, before hosting the Atlantic City Surf for three games to complete the seven-game homestand.

The Rapids will play 14 games against the American Defenders of New Hampshire, the New Jersey Jackals, the Quebec City Capitales and the Sussex Skyhawks; 13 games against the Atlantic City Surf and the Worcester Tornadoes; and 12 games against the Brockton Rox, for a total of 94 games.

The schedule will be divided into two halves. The first half will go from Thursday, May 28 to Saturday, July 18, with the Rapids playing 24 games at home and 23 on the road. The second half will start on Sunday, July 19, with the last game of the regular season scheduled for Monday, Sept. 7. Ottawa will play 23 home games and 24 on the road in the second half.

Ottawa's Canadian rivals, the Quebec City Capitales, will make their first visit to Ottawa from Friday, July 10 to Monday, July 13. Ottawa will also play host to the Capitales on Aug. 18 and 19 before concluding their home schedule against Quebec City on Sunday, Sept. 6. The 2008 defending champions, the Sussex Skyhawks, will be in Ottawa from Friday, June 12 to Sunday, June 14. The Rapids will play at home against the Brockton Rox on Canada Day, Wednesday, July 1.
