June 11, 2009 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
(Ottawa ON.): The Ottawa 67's today announced that a regular season game against the Peterborough Petes will be played on a Monday morning as part of a special promotion involving participating Ottawa and area schools. The School Day Game will be played on Monday November 2nd at 10:30 AM and a series of ancillary activities that support student character development initiatives will also be featured.
"We think this game is going to be fantastic for kids, teachers, parents and the players," said 67's Owner and Governor Jeff Hunt. "It gives us a chance to promote the development of important character traits like perseverance, cooperation and achievement; to engage the kids in physical fitness activities, and to showcase other fun and interesting educational displays with a backdrop of a fast-paced, meaningful regular season game. And can you imagine what it'll be like for the players with so many young fans in the stands cheering them on? It'll be a game they'll remember for a very long time."
The decision to organize the School Day Game was made after consultations with the Ottawa Carleton District School Board and the Ottawa Catholic School Board. The specific educational elements to be featured at the game and plans for transportation, pricing and school participation are under development "Since the OHL schedule needed to be finalized, we had to confirm the date and starting time for the School Day Game before all the logistical details had been finalized," said Hunt. "We're hoping that as many as 200 elementary schools-public, Catholic and private-join us, and that we have a full house to cheer us on to victory against the Petes."
The School Day Game will be excluded from the 67's season ticket package. All paid season ticket holders who wish to attend can do so by notifying the 67's ticket office before a soon to be specified date. All other paid season ticket holders will receive 2 vouchers for free tickets to any other regular season game for each ticket in their package as compensation for missing the School Day Game.
