BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Brampton Battalion will open its 2009-10 season on the road against the Peterborough Petes on Thursday, Sept. 17, the Ontario Hockey League club announced Wednesday.

The game marks the third time the Battalion has been scheduled to open its season at Peterborough. The Petes won 5-1 in the Troops' inaugural game, on Sept. 24, 1998, and the Battalion prevailed 3-2 on Sept. 21, 2006.

The Battalion's home opener is set for Friday, Sept. 18, against the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors, while the Belleville Bulls and Saginaw Spirit visit on Sept. 25 and Oct. 1 respectively to account for the third and fourth games of the schedule.

The Battalion plays 34 home games, comprising 20 Sundays, seven Thursdays, including New Year's Eve, six Fridays and Thanksgiving Monday.

Start times are 2 p.m. on Sundays, Thanksgiving Monday and New Year's Eve, 7 p.m. for other Thursday games and 7:30 p.m. on Fridays.

The Battalion has four home-and-home series, all against Central Division foes, starting with the Niagara IceDogs, who entertain the Battalion on Oct. 8 and visit Brampton the next night. The Troops' New Year's Eve meeting with the Majors completes a home-and-home set that opens at Mississauga on Dec. 30.

The other series are with the Sudbury Wolves on Dec. 4 and 6 and Barrie Colts on March 11-12.

Within the Central, one of two divisions in the Eastern Conference, the Battalion faces Mississauga and Sudbury eight times each and Barrie and Niagara six times each. The Troops play East Division teams four times each and Western Conference opponents twice each.
