Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

FISHKILL, NY - The Hudson Valley Renegades moved back to the .500 mark as they continued their good play over the last week in a 6-1 over series-opening victory over the West Virginia Black Bears Monday night at Dutchess Stadium. Hudson Valley has won six of their last seven games.

As they did so often during their five-game win streak, the Renegades scored first on a two-run double by first baseman Nate Lowe. With runners at first and second with one out, Lowe split the right-centerfield gap to score both runners and give Hudson Valley a 2-0 lead.

The Renegades picked up an insurance run in the fifth. With one out, centerfielder Jake Fraley doubled, stole third, then scored on a RBI groundout to third by third baseman Jim Haley to make the score 3-0.

Hudson Valley would put the game away with a three-run sixth. With runners at second and third with two out, shortstop Joseph Astacio struck out on a ball in the dirt. However, the ball got away from Black Bears catcher Kevin Krause, which allowed Astacio to reach and second baseman Miles Mastrobuoni to score on the wild pitch. After Astacio stole a base to put runners at second and third, rightfielder Ryan Boldt reached on an infield single to first, which allowed both runners to score and give the Renegades a commanding 6-0 lead.

West Virginia finally got on the board in the seventh as a sac fly by first baseman Albert Baur made the score 6-1.

But that was as close as the Black Bears got as they were shut down on a scintillating pitching performance by Hudson Valley starter Travis Ott. The southpaw picked up the win (2-0) by going six scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and striking out six. He extended his scoreless innings streak to 19.2 and still has not given up a run this season.

The loss went to West Virginia starter Cameron Vieaux (0-1) who allowed three runs, on three hits, in five innings of work. Reliever J.D. Busfield picked up the save for the Renegades after going three innings and allowing a single run four hits with two strikeouts. It was J.D.'s first save of the season.

Each team had five hits. Hudson Valley was led by Boldt, who went 2-5 with two singles, two RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored. The Black Bears got a 2-5 performance by shortstop Stephan Alemais who singled twice, stole a base and scored the lone run of the game for West Virginia.

Hudson Valley continues its three-game series against West Virginia tomorrow with a 7:05 start. Adrian Navas (2-1, 2.50 ERA) will go for the Renegades against James Marvel (1-3, 4.22 ERA) of the Black Bears. For tickets, call 845-838-0094 or go to hvrenegades.com.
