Auburn Doubledays News Release
The Auburn Doubledays, Single-A Short Season affiliate of the Washington Nationals, lost their fourth straight game with a 4-0 loss to the Vermont Lake Monsters on Monday night. Doubledays leadoff hitter Blake Perkins reached base for the eleventh straight game in the loss.
Vermont (13-11) jumped on the board in the top of the third inning off of Auburn right-hander Kyle Simonds. Simonds walked Steven Pallares to lead off the inning. Luis Barrera then singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. Nate Mondou followed with a single to score Pallares and give the Lake Monsters a 1-0 lead.
The Lake Monsters added to their lead in the seventh inning off Doubledays reliever Carlos Acevedo. With two outs, Pallares singled. With Barrera batting, Pallares stole second base. Pallares then scored on a Barrera RBI single to center field as Vermont took a 2-0 advantage.
Vermont extended its lead in the ninth inning off Auburn right-hander Phil Morse. With one out, Johnny Rodriguez reached base on an error. Pallares then singled to put runners on first and second base. Barrera followed with a base hit to right field, scoring Rodriguez and moving Pallares to second to extend the Lake Monsters' lead to three, 3-0. Mondou then singled center field to knock in Pallares from second base and put Vermont on top, 4-0.
The Doubledays (12-12) couldn't get into a rhythm on the offensive end. Auburn managed just four hits and only got two runners into scoring position in the loss.
Auburn and Vermont meet Tuesday night for the second game of a three-game series. Left-hander Tyler Watson is scheduled to pitch for the Doubledays against Lake Monsters left-hander A.J. Puk. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. from Falcon Park. Tuesday is U.S. Army Night where complimentary general admission tickets are available from the U.S. Army. At the concession stand, two tacos with chips will be $4.50 as part of "Taco Tuesday" at Falcon Park.
