MISSOULA, MONT - The Missoula Osprey held a lead in the late innings for the second straight game on Saturday at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. However, unlike their walk-off win the night before, the home team could not rally back when the visitors pushed ahead.
Instead of walk-off excitement for Missoula, the Great Falls Voyagers were the ones getting the big run, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to finish off a 5-4 comeback win over the Osprey in front of 2,804 fans.
The Osprey (2-4) bounced back twice from early one-run deficits by using a home run by Kyle Koeneman in the second inning, back-to-back run-scoring hits by Socrates Brito and Jake Lamb in the third and a RBI hit by Yosbel Gutierrez in the sixth to forge out to a 4-2 lead.
The Voyagers (4-2) would rally, scoring a run in the top of the eighth to pull within a run and then managed to steal the win by scoring twice off of Osprey reliever Chase Stevens (0-1). The inning was helped by two wild pitches and a passed ball.
The Osprey received more than a quality start from right-hander Ross Gerdeman, who pitched into the seventh inning. Gerdeman allowed five hits and two runs in 6 1/3 innings pitched, while walking three and striking out six batters. Cody Geyer came on in relief, and while surrendering a run in the eighth, pitched his way out of inherited trouble in the top of the seventh, and from further damage in the eighth, scattering two hits and a walk while fanning two batters.
Both teams had eight hits, with Jake Lamb once again the hitting star for Missoula. Lamb hit a pair of doubles and a single, while Pedro Ruiz singled and walked twice. Tyler Bream added a base hit for the Osprey.
The Osprey and Voyagers conclude their three-game series on Sunday at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. Right-hander Chris Pack will get the start for Missoula, while Great Falls will counter with right-hander Thomas Royse.
Tickets are available now at the MSO Hub Box Office, located at 140 North Higgins in Downtown Missoula, online at MissoulaOsprey.com and by phone (406) 543-3300.
