Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., June 11, 2008) - Long Island Ducks team officials today announced the signings of lefthanded pitchers Donovan Osborne and Vic Darensbourg. Both southpaws have pitched at the Major League level, combining for 56 wins and 472 games of big league experience.
"Bringing these two guys on board gives us a much stronger pitching staff," says Ducks manager Dave LaPoint. "We're excited to have them on our team as we get set for the stretch drive of the season's first half."
Osborne pitched for the Ducks in 2005 and 2007, and has spent three seasons in the Atlantic League, having also pitched under Dave LaPoint at Bridgeport. The California native owns ten league victories, eight of them in a Long Island uniform. Osborne has seen time at the Major League level in nine different seasons, most recently with the New York Yankees in 2004. He made his debut as a starter with St. Louis in 1992, going 11-9 with a 3.77 ERA. His best season came in 1996 with the Cardinals, when he set career highs in starts (30), wins (13), innings (198.2), and strikeouts (134), while posting a 3.53 ERA. The California native owns 49 victories in 163 big league outings. He has 31 wins in 122 minor league contests, and a career ERA of 4.12. Osborne was originally selected by the Cardinals in the first round of 1990 draft.
Darensbourg comes to Long Island with eight years of big league experience, mostly with the Florida Marlins. The lefty began the year with Lehigh Valley (AAA, Phillies) of the International League after spending all of last season with Toledo (AAA, Tigers). The 37-year-old debuted on the big league stage with Florida in 1998 and spent five seasons with the club. His most recent big league stint came in 2005 with the Detroit Tigers. Darensbourg has spent almost his entire career as a reliever, and owns a 42-30 record, 39 saves and lifetime 2.87 ERA at the minor league level.
In order to make room on the 25-man roster, the Ducks released pitchers Kevin Mannix and Mike Myers on Monday, June 9.
The Long Island Ducks play their home games at Citibank Park and are in their ninth season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. For further information, visit www.liducks.com, or call (631) 940-3825.
