
Bears Blank Barnstormers, Win 6-0

NEWARK, NJ - Newark Bears pitchers Pat Stanley and JJ Trujillo combined to shut out the Lancaster Barnstormers 6-0 at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Wednesday night. This was the Bears league-leading fourth shutout and Stanley has been the winning pitcher in three of the four games.
Bears starter Stanley (6-0) earned the win, pitching six and two-thirds innings, giving up four hits, striking out six and walking three. Stanley has won six consecutive starts and in his last three appearances combined, he has pitched 22 and one-third consecutive scoreless innings. Reliever Trujillo tossed a scoreless two and one-third innings and struck out the final three batters to secure the win.
The Bears scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. The Bears collected four consecutive base runners to start the inning. Jose Herrera plated second baseman Bobby Hill with an RBI single. Then, with one out, Ramon Castro scored on a fielder's choice play activated by Cory Aldridge to make the score 2-0.
The Bears added another two runs in the third when Val Majewski smacked a two-out 2-RBI double to give the Bears a 4-0 lead.
The Bears then scored single runs in the fourth and the fifth. In the fourth inning, John Pachot blasted a solo home run over the left field wall, boosting the score to 5-0. The homer was Pachot's sixth of the season. The Bears made the score 6-0 in the fifth on an RBI single by Randall Simon.
Jose Herrera led the Bears offensively, going 3-4 with three singles.
Paul Thorp (0-1) suffered the loss for the Barnstormers, giving up four runs on seven hits during three innings of work.
