
Ortega named to Burlington Indians field staff

Jose Ortega, who played infield for the Burlington Indians in 2004, is returning to the team as a coach in '06. Ortega will be the infield coach, replacing Dennis Malave on the field staff. Ortega signed with the Indians in 2004 as a non-drafted free agent. He hit .267 with 15 RBI's in 46 games with the Burlington Indians in 2004. Ortega, 25, resides in Riverside, CA.
Malave has been re-assigned to the Indian's new affiliate in the Gulf Coast League. Malave also played for the Burlington Indians as an outfielder before beginning his coaching career. Malave was a career .255 hitter with 116 stolen bases in his minor league career.
The Burlington Indians open their season with two 7 PM exhibition games on Thursday, June 15 and Saturday, June 17. The regular season home opener follows one week later on Saturday, June 24 at 6:30 PM against the Bristol White Sox with a Fireworks show sponsored by LabCorp following the game.
The Indians offer area fans an affordable night of family entertainment, with great ballpark food, soda and beer, as well as a full line of souvenirs and great on-field contests and giveaways.
