Orlando Titans News Release

ORLANDO, Fla. (April 14, 2010) -- Going into last weekend's action, it was generally believed that the Orlando Titans needed one more win to clinch a spot in the National Lacrosse League playoffs. But after last week's 17-7 loss to Washington, NLL officials determined otherwise.

After running through every possible scenario for the remaining two weekends of the season, NLL officials announced that the Orlando Titans (8-5) have already clinched a spot in the 2010 playoffs, regardless of how they fare in their last three regular season games.

After last weekend's play, only a game-and-a-half separated first from fifth place in the East Division. The top four teams in each division qualify for the post-season.

"It was an extremely complicated procedure because we could have multiple teams tied with identical records at the end of the season, but we determined that even if Orlando loses its last three games and finishes at 8-8, they would win every tiebreaker and be guaranteed a playoff spot," NLL Vice President of Communications Doug Fritts said. He went on to say that Orlando's regular season sweeps over Toronto and Rochester helped the team in all tie-breaker scenarios.

The league also determined that the Titans can clinch a first round home playoff game with a win against Buffalo. The team can also win the Eastern Division regular season title with a win against Buffalo and either a Boston loss to Colorado or a Rochester loss to Toronto. A division title would give the Titans home field advantage at least for the first two playoff rounds.

Currently the Titans lead the East Division with an 8-5 record. Toronto is second at 8-7, with Rochester, Buffalo and Boston all tied for third with identical 7-7 marks. The team plays Buffalo on Friday night. Game time is 7:35 p.m. and tickets are available by calling 407-601-6516, through TICKETMASTER or by visiting the Amway Arena box office.
