Orlando City SC News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando City SC (3-2-2, 11 points) travels to take on the Columbus Crew (2-2-2, 8 points) on Saturday, April 16 at Lower.com Field. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET.
The match will be locally broadcast on FOX35 PLUS and available to stream on LionNation TV, while being transmitted on 96.9 The Game in English and Acción 97.9 in Spanish.
"First time against Columbus this year, a team who has been protagonists of the league for years and did not have the opportunity to compete in the playoffs last year, but we know about them. They're a good team who have very good players that have a lot of talent and a team who has invested as well," Head Coach Oscar Pareja said of the Crew. "We're optimistic, getting our boys ready, understanding that it'll be a great game to measure ourselves as we did when we went to LA and Portland. The boys have had a good week after three points against Chicago, trying to improve our finishing as we've spoken about and we'll continue to try to be precise to get good results."
Saturday will serve as the first matchup between the Lions and Crew this campaign, with City having taken wins in five of the last six meetings between the two sides. The pair split the series a year ago, with the home team taking the victory on each occasion.
City enters the weekend looking to build off a 1-0 shutout victory over the Chicago Fire this past Saturday. Ercan Kara scored the eventual game-winner in the 59th minute of that match, good for his first finish as a Lion. In addition, Pedro Gallese matched the Club wins record on the afternoon, tying Joe Bendik with his 25th victory in between the sticks across all competitions.
Alexandre Pato and Júnior Urso lead the side with two goals apiece this campaign, while Mauricio Pereyra holds the team high in assists with three. With the clean sheet this past weekend, goalkeeper Pedro Gallese sits tied for the league lead with Philadelphia's Andre Blake and Chicagio's Gaga Slonina with four shutouts in 2022.
The Crew come into Saturday's match looking to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to the Union a week ago. An own goal from Eloy Room in the second minute of play decided the contest early, with the home side taking all three points from the match.
Lucas Zelarayán leads the Crew with four goals and also sits tied for the team lead in assists with Derrick Etienne Jr. and Steven Moreira, each with two this campaign.
Following Saturday's match, the Lions will return to Exploria Stadium on Wednesday, April 20, set to face off in the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Kickoff for that match is set for 7 p.m. ET, with tickets available here or by calling (855) ORL-CITY.
