Orlando City SC News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando City SC and Adrian Winter have mutually agreed to terminate the midfielder's contract. Winter departs the Club for family reasons.
"We want to thank Adrian for his contributions to the Club. The decision to release him is a very difficult one but there is very little you can do when a player needs to be closer to his family and that family is in Switzerland," Lions Head Coach Adrian Heath said. "Adrian is a very popular character within the club and will be sorely missed. We would like to wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors."
Winter, 29, joined Orlando City on July 29, 2015 and scored his first two goals for the Club in the Lions' 3-1 win over Sporting Kansas City on Sept. 13. Winter scored the game-tying goal in stoppage time of the 2016 season opener on March 6 against Real Salt Lake, which brought the Lions back from a 2-0 stoppage-time deficit.
Winter became a fan favorite during his time with the Lions for his intense work rate and knack for scoring timely goals. Most recently, Winter scored a go-ahead goal in the 83rd minute against Toronto FC on June 25.
"This has been a great opportunity for me. I've been able to be part of a caring organization and very enthusiastic fans," Winter said. "I will always cherish my time in Orlando and will miss this Club, but I l have to put family first. The Club has been very good in working with me on my request."
Winter previously played for FC Luzern in the Swiss Super League, scoring 15 goals in 130 appearances. Winter also has earned one cap for the Swiss national team.
