Red Bull New York News Release
HARRISON, N.J. - The New York Red Bulls host Liga MX side Club America at Red Bull Arena for a friendly on Wednesday, July 6 at 8 p.m. (Radio: Red Bulls Radio in English/Spanish on TuneIn). Club America will be the second Liga MX team to visit Red Bull Arena and it will be the club's first trip to the New York metro area since 2011.
This will be the first meeting between the two clubs and will be the first time since 2014 that a Mexican club has played at Red Bull Arena.
The Red Bulls are no strangers to international club friendlies as they have hosted major clubs from across Europe and South America. Last Summer, New York defeated both Chelsea FC of the English Premier League and S. L. Benfica of Portugal's Primeira Liga in the International Champions Cup. Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus are some of the other teams that have visited Red Bull Arena in the past.
Club America owns the record for most Liga MX titles with 16 and has won the most CONCACAF Champions League titles with seven. They are back-to-back winners of the Champions League, defeating the Montreal Impact in the 2015 final and fellow Mexican side Tigres in 2016.
Although it is a friendly, the match will provide New York a taste of the competition they will face in the upcoming CONCACAF Champions League. Although Club America will not be in this year's competition, a Mexican team has won the competition every year since 2006.
Following the match, the Red Bulls return to MLS regular season play with a home match against the Portland Timbers on Sunday, July 10. Kickoff is set for 6 pm E.T. (TV: ESPN 2, Radio: Red Bulls Radio in English/Spanish on TuneIn). Tickets for all Red Bulls home matches are available by visiting http://www.NewYorkRedBulls.com/tickets or calling 1.877.727.6223.
