
Orioles Select Contract on RHP Berken

The Orioles today announced that they have selected the contract of RHP JASON BERKEN from Triple-A Norfolk and OF LOU MONTANEZ has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with torn ligaments in his right thumb.
Berken, 25, went 1-1 with a 5.63 ERA (8.0IP, 5ER) in two starts with Double-A Bowie to begin the year before being transferred to Triple-A Norfolk, where he went 2-0 with a 1.05 ERA (25.2IP, 3ER) in 5 starts. A 6th round selection in the 2006 First Year Player Draft, Berken's addition puts the 40-man roster at 39.
Montanez batted .204 (10-49) in 18 games for the Orioles. He hurt his thumb diving for a ball while playing left field on May 2 in Toronto. Montanez is expected to have surgery today.
