Sherman Johnson doubled home Michael Bolaski with two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning, but the Grand Junction Rockies scored two in the 11th to win 4-2 on Thursday evening.

The Owlz brought out the rally caps on Thursday in an attempt to stay alive in the South division pennant race, but the Rockies played the role of spoiler, scoring two runs with two outs in the 11th to move two games ahead of the Owlz with seven games left to play.

Michael Morin loaded the bases with one out in the 11th, so Robbie Powell came in to face Wilfredo Rodriguez and try and get out of the jam. Rodriguez missed a suicide squeeze attempt, so Zac Livingston was able to tag out Max White at the plate for the second out. However, on a 1-2 pitch, Rodriguez singled home Zach Osborne and David Dahl. Morin was handed the loss, while Patrick Johnson, who pitched two shutout innings in relief, got the victory.

Michael Bolaski finished 3-for-5 with one run and a RBI, but the rest of the Owlz offense struggled against the Rockies pitching staff. Eddie Butler had not lasted past the 4th inning in his previous two starts versus Orem, but the 1st round pick fired 6.2 innings of one-run ball tonight.

Orem's pitching was solid as well thanks to Gabriel Perez and Jake Boyd. Perez entered in search of his 9th win, but fell short, giving up two runs in six plus innings. He threw six shutout innings, but allowed back-to-back triples in the 7th to give the Rockies a 2-1 advantage. Boyd threw three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Orem is now three games back of the Ogden Raptors and two back of the Rockies with seven games to play. Orem hosts Grand Junction in the final game of the two-game series on Friday night. It will be a Webkinz Giveaway at the Home of the Owlz.
