Orange County SC News Release
Orange County SC is delighted to announce the signing of 19-year-old center back Ashton Miles to his first professional contract for the 2024 season. This contract makes Miles the first player to move from the OCSC II academy team, to a USL Academy Pro contract, and now a fully professional contract with the club.
"I am extremely excited to be signing my first professional contract with Orange County SC," Miles said. "God has led me to this moment and after going through the full-time professional training structure with OCSC II, I couldn't be more prepared. Having captained OCSC II this past season, I feel I am ready to take this next step in my career and compete for minutes with the first team."
Miles has already made eight appearances at the first team level with OCSC after he signed his USL Academy Pro contract in 2022. Last season, he appeared in five USL Championship matches and made his Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup debut in a 5-0 victory over Capo FC. Miles also started two matches in the 2022 USL Championship season.
"This signing is a significant milestone for the club, with Ashton becoming the first player to be signed from our OCSC II team," OCSC President of Soccer Operations and General Manager Peter Nugent said. "It highlights the progress our path to professional model is making, and further shows our commitment to developing players through our program. Ashton has led by example and is fully deserving of this opportunity, we feel he has all the attributes required to succeed at this level and hopefully beyond."
As captain of OCSC II, Miles appeared in seven USL Academy League matches and scored two goals in that span, while the Black and Orange finished in first in the Southwest Division and earned a spot in the USL Academy League Finals. In Tampa, FL, Miles started all four matches, played every minute of the tournament, and earned a spot on the USL Academy League Finals All-Tournament First Team.
By signing this contract, Miles now becomes the first player in club history to earn a first team contract after starting out in OCSC's fully-funded developmental academy.
