New Mexico United News Release
Albuquerque, NM - New Mexico United is thrilled to announce the signing of defender Avionne Flanagan ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. Despite his young age (24), Flanagan has already accrued more than 5,000 minutes played as a pro - playing across the USL Championship, USL League One, and MLS Next Pro. In 2023, Flanagan's 79th minute playoff goal propelled Charlotte to the USL League One semi-final
"Avionne's speed and ability will make us simultaneously exciting, dangerous, and assured at the back," said United Sporting Director Itamar Keinan. "He provides a dynamic element that is difficult to quantify, but will instantly make this team better. We're very excited to welcome him to the Land of Enchantment."
Last season, Flanagan was a key figure for Independence FC, playing in every match but one (31/32). Prior to spending the last two seasons with Charlotte, Flanagan saw significant time with Charleston Battery (USL-C), FC Cincinnati II (MLS Next Pro), FC Tulsa (USL-C), and Orange County SC (USL-C). He was drafted 29th overall by FC Cincinnati in the 2021 MLS Superdraft.
