ONTARIO, Calif. (March 24, 2017) - Three second-period goals lifted the Ontario Reign (31-18-10-0) over the San Antonio Rampage (25-33-5-2) 3-2 on Friday evening at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Ontario opened the scoring early in the second when Michael Mersch finished a loose rebound in front of Rampage netminder Joe Cannata at 2:27. Quinton Shore extended the Reign lead to two nearly 10 minutes later when he netted his first of the season 11:47 into the frame. Mersch gave Ontario a 3-0 lead after capitalizing on a shorthanded breakaway, blasting the puck from the point and past Cannata at 16:08. The Rampage evaded a shutout when Felix Girard tipped in a shot from Eric Gelinas on the power play 17:08 in the second.
Despite a second Rampage power-play goal midway in the third from Rocco Grimaldi 10:01 into the period, the Rampage were unable to net a game-tying goal to send the game into additional minutes.
