Ontario Ride a Wave to Victory

Coming off a disappointing loss Friday night, the Ontario Fury knew it would need to bounce back Sunday against the defending Major Arena Soccer League champion Milwaukee Wave.
Backstopped by 18 saves from Chris Toth and a hat trick from Franck Tayou, the Fury took advantage of a tired Milwaukee team to take a 7-3 win in front of 3,598 fans at Toyota Arena.
Ontario jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 9:23 of the game, as the Fury caught Milwaukee - which lost in a shootout the night before against San Diego - off their guard. Tayou opened the scoring with a goal on a restart that caught goalkeeper Rafael Dias flat footed.
Milwaukee settled in after that, but it was Tayou again at the midway point of the first, as he took a pass from Jeff Hughes and fired it home. Less than a minute later, Justin Stinson got a pass from Israel Sesay and scored into the far post, leading the Wave to call a time out.
Coming out of the break, the Wave decided to go with a sixth attacker, with Angel Curiel donning a goalkeeper's jersey and gloves. He made a couple of nice stops to keep it a three-goal game after a period. But, still in ther in the second, Juan Carlos Gonzalez made it 4-0 by putting home a pass from Joseph Cariel.
Milwaukee broke the shutout with 4:52 remaining in the half, as Max Ferdinand got a pass in front from Ian Bennett and he beat Toth from point-blank range. But Ontario scored twice more with Curiel on the field as the extra attacker before the end of the half. Tayou completed his hat trick, taking a long throw from Toth, then beating his defender down the right side. And Maicon de Abreu got a pass from Thiago Goncalves on the left wing and fired it home, sending Ontario into the break up 6-1.
Milwaukee returned Dias to the goal in the third, and scored twice. Isaac Pereyra was on the end of two centering passes off the boards - one from Andre Hayne, the other Chad Vandergriffe - to close the score to 6-3 after three.
But Cariel put the final nail in the coffin, streaking down the right wing after getting a pass from Tayou to close out the scoring.
Ontario now finds itself in third place in the Western Conference with four games to play. The Fury will be back in action at 6 p.m. Saturday against the Tacoma Stars. The game will feature the popular mascot game at halftime, and the Fury will be donning special jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit the Scheu Family YMCA after the game.
