Tropics Drop Only Third Game of Season, 4-3 in Tacoma
March 1, 2020 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Florida Tropics SC News Release
TACOMA, Washington - The Florida Tropics dropped just their third game of the season Sunday night in Tacoma, falling to the Stars 4-3, but remain in first place in the Major Arena Soccer League's Eastern Conference with a 16-3 record.
The Tropics got some help Sunday from Soles de Sonora who defeated Utica, dropping Utica to 14-4, still one and one-half games behind Florida in the race for the top spot in the conference. The two teams do not face each other in the regular season, so the tie-breaker for first place should they finish with identical records would be goal differential. Entering Sunday, the Tropics had a goal differential of +77 while Utica's was at +44 with one fewer games played.
Victor Parreiras scored twice in the second half to give Florida a 3-2 lead, but Tacoma closed out the game with a pair of its own, the winner coming from Cory Keitz with 3:21 to play.
The two sides traded power-play goals in the first half with Guilherme pulling Florida into a 1-1 tie mid-way through the second quarter.
Florida is down to the final six games of the regular season before the playoffs begin the weekend of March 27-29. The Tropics clinched a berth in the post-season for the first time in club history by beating Tacoma Thursday night in overtime, 8-7.
The Tropics will finish this three-game road trip at Rochester on Friday, March 6 in a 7:05 p.m start before returning to the RP Funding Center to host the St. Louis Ambush - the first of three straight Sunday matinees at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland - in a 3:05 start March 8. The lone remaining road game will be on Thursday, March 19 in Orlando. All games are broadcast live at www.masl.tv, and the three remaining home games will be broadcast live on WTTA-TV, Great 38 in Tampa.
