Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif.- The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, announced the suspension of center Jordan Morrison and the release of goaltender Jase Weslosky.
Morrison, 25, is leaving the Reign organization to play hockey in Klangenfurt, Austria in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga (First Bank Ice Hockey League).
The Uxbridge, Ontario native finished the 2010-11 season as the Reign's leading offensive player. He recorded 55 points in 71 games; leading the team in assists with 35 and scoring the second most goals with 20.
Prior to joining the Reign last season, Morrison spent his 2009-10 season playing for the Florida Everblades, the Johnstown Chiefs and the Wheeling Nailers (all of the ECHL). During the 2008-09 season, Morrison played for the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers and saw AHL ice seven times with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. With the Nailers, Morrison recorded his best season thus far with 74 points (26g, 48a).
For just less than two seasons Morrison played in the Austrian league at Dalhousie University before beginning his ECHL career with the Texas Wildcatters. During his four year OHL career with the Peterborough Petes Morrison was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins (#222 overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Weslosky, 22, came to the Reign in March of 2011 through a deal which sent forward Dusty Collins to the Florida Everblades. The late-season addition was 2-1-0 in four appearances with the Reign. Weslosky began the 2010-11 season with the Idaho Steelheads, where he played 20 games before joining Florida on March 1. The Edmonton, Alberta native played a total of 24 games on the season and compiled a 9-7-3 record with a 2.79 goals-against average and a 9.16 save percentage. Drafted in the fourth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft (#108 overall) by the New York Islanders, Weslosky played three seasons (2006-2009) with St. Cloud State (WCHA) before going pro, recording a 2.43 GAA, .920 save percentage, and 37-27-4 record in 72 games with the Huskies.
