The Wheeling Nailers, AA Affiliate for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, are pleased to announce that they have signed forward Devin DiDiomete to an ECHL Standard Players Contract.

DiDiomete, 23, was originally drafted in the seventh round (187th overall) by the Calgary Flames in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. After playing four years of junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with Sudbury and Sarnia, DiDiomete turned pro at the beginning of the 2008-09 season, signing on as a free agent with the New York Rangers.

The Stratford, ON native spent each of his first three seasons of professional hockey in the Rangers' organization, playing for the Hartford Wolf Pack, Connecticut Whale, and Charlotte Checkers. During those three years, DiDiomete accumulated 10 goals, 11 assists, 21 points, and 661 penalty minutes in 170 AHL games. In his 15 games with Charlotte, who was a member of the ECHL at the time, the 5-foot-11 forward recorded two goals, two assists, four points, and 128 penalty minutes.

Thus far this season, DiDiomete has appeared in two games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, picking up two penalty minutes.

"Devin brings some sandpaper to our group along with some pretty good hands," said head coach Stan Drulia. "He plays with passion and energy, while bringing some experience to our young team," he said.

The Nailers will be home for a pair of games next weekend, when they welcome the Gwinnett Gladiators and Trenton Titans to town on Friday and Saturday night. Both games will begin at 7:35 at WesBanco Arena.
