Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif.- The Ontario Reign, 2011-12 Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, are honored to announce that the ECHL Board of Governors has selected President Justin Kemp as the 2011-12 recipient of the ECHL Executive of the Year award.
Ontario led the ECHL in attendance for the third consecutive season in 2011-12, with an average of 6,309 fans per game. The Reign saw large increases in both corporate revenue and non-premium ticket revenue.
On the ice, Kemp hired Jason Christie as the team's new head coach, and the Reign returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2009, capturing the Pacific Division title with a 43-21-8 record for 94 points, a 34-point improvement over 2010-11.
Kemp has achieved his goal to make the Reign a true partner in the community. The Hope Reigns Foundation, the charitable arm of the Reign organization, raised over $480,000 for local causes during the 2011-12 season. In addition, players and staff donated over 1000 hours to groups throughout the area. Kemp also serves on the Executive Board for the local Chamber of Commerce.
"It's truly an honor to receive this award, and as I've always said it is a true team effort here in Ontario and it is the accomplishments of so many that make this possible," said Kemp. "I have the privilege of coming to work every day with outstanding people and we collectively make each other better. I want to sincerely thank the board for recognizing these efforts as well as our staff for their commitment to hard work and teamwork."
Kemp is responsible for overseeing the team's business operations including ticket sales, public and community relations and finance, while also assisting in corporate partnership and marketing efforts. He began his sports management career as a corporate account executive with the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes. Following three seasons with the Coyotes, he was named advertising sales manager for the Anaheim Ducks, selling corporate partnerships not only for the NHL team but also for Arrowhead Pond. He was vice president of business development for the Long Beach Ice Dogs, beginning with the team's entrance into the ECHL in 2003 and continuing through an ownership change in 2006.
