Ontario's Kemp Named ECHL Executive of the Year

Published on June 26, 2012 under ECHL (ECHL) News Release

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL announced on Tuesday that Ontario Reign President Justin Kemp has been selected by the ECHL Board of Governors as the 2011-12 recipient of the ECHL Executive of the Year award.

Ontario led the ECHL in attendance for the third consecutive season in 2011-12, with an average of 6,309 fans per game. The Reign saw large increases in both corporate revenue and non-premium ticket revenue, and the club's Hope Reigns Foundation raised over $480,000 for local causes.

On the ice, Kemp hired Jason Christie as the team's new head coach, and the Reign returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2009, capturing the Pacific Division title with a 43-21-8 record for 94 points, a 34-point improvement over 2010-11.

Kemp is responsible for overseeing the team's business operations including ticket sales, public and community relations and finance, while also assisting in corporate partnership and marketing efforts. He began his sports management career as a corporate account executive with the National Hockey League's Phoenix Coyotes. Following three seasons with the Coyotes, he was named advertising sales manager for the Anaheim Ducks, selling corporate partnerships not only for the NHL team but also for Arrowhead Pond. He was vice president of business development for the Long Beach Ice Dogs, beginning with the team's entrance into the ECHL in 2003 and continuing through an ownership change in 2006. Kemp also serves on the Executive Board for the local Chamber of Commerce.
