Ontario Reign Game Preview: Reign vs. Gulls Rivalry Kicks off Tonight at Citizens Business Bank Aren
November 5, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Ontario Reign News Release
Ontario, CA - The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), host the San Diego Gulls tonight at 7:00 at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California. Tonight is the first of 12 regular-season meetings between the two teams.
Preseason Tilts:
The Reign and Gulls collided in a pair of preseason contests in early October with the Gulls taking a 3-2 shootout victory on October 2 at Citizens Business Bank Arena and a 5-3 win on October 5 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California, home to the Gulls' NHL affiliate, the Anaheim Ducks.
Making Home Ice Count:
The Reign enjoy Citizens Business Bank Arena a season-low four times in the month of November. December features five home contests and January holds a season-high 10 home games.
Shutdown Specialists:
Heading into tonight's contest, the Reign boast the best penalty killing record in the AHL at 92.1 percent (three goals against on 38 chances).
Straight With No Chaser:
Forward Michael Mersch leads the AHL with 41 shots on goal.
Scouting the Gulls:
Forward Nick Ritchie leads the Gulls with nine points and eight goals and is on a three-game goal scoring streak (four goals) while goaltender John Gibson is 5-0-1 with a 2.04 goals-against average and .931 save percentage.
Gulls Return:
The San Diego Gulls return for the first time since 2013 when they were a member of the Western States Hockey League. The Gulls have inhabited San Diego since 1966 as members of the Western Hockey League (1966-1974), International Hockey League (1990-95), West Coast Hockey League (1995-2003), East Coast Hockey League/ECHL (2003-2006) and Western States Hockey League (2008-13). The Gulls are the AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League, who moved their "AAA" affiliation from the Norfolk Admirals last summer.
