Ontario Fury News Release
Jan. 9, 2015 | Harrisburg Heat (0-8) vs. Ontario Fury (7-5)
The Ontario Fury is Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet
Welcome to CITIZENS BUSINESS BANK ARENA for this evening's MAJOR ARENA SOCCER LEAGUE game between the visiting Harrisburg Heat and the ONTARIO FURY. Today's game is the final intra-division game for the Fury, as they take on Harrisburg from the Eastern Division. The game will be played under standard single-point scoring system. ABOUT THE FURY LAST GAME: Lost to Las Vegas, 11-8, Jan. 3, 2015. NEXT GAME: vs. Turlock Express, Jan. 17, 2015. The 7 p.m. kickoff game will be the first of a two-game weekend at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
LAST GAME ROUNDUP: The Fury and Las Vegas Legends engaged in a brutal back-and-forth battle for second place that ended with the Legends on top 11-8. The two teams combined for 40 fouls, four yellow cards, one red card and 46 minutes in penalties. Las Vegas had four players in the penalty box at one point in the game. Tino Nunez and Luis Piffer each had two goals for Ontario in the loss.
SEEING RED: Ontario's Miguel Sanchez received the game's only red card during last Saturday's game, and as such, he will be suspended for tonight's game against Harrisburg. Sanchez has four goals and one assist this season for the Fury.
NO LONGER SEEING RED: Ontario goalkeeper Ramon Torres will be available to play in tonight's game after serving a two-game suspension for a red card he received in a game at Turlock. Torres was ejected for engaging in a fight with former Fury netminder Sanaldo.
PICKING UP POWER: The insertion of coach Bernie Lilavois has helped push the Fury's power play up the league's charts. Ontario was 3-for-9 against Las Vegas, and is now converting 38.7 percent of the time with the extra attacker. The killed four of the five penalties against Las Vegas, but have only killed 51.4 percent of its penalties this season.
CAPTAIN STILL NEAR TOP: Tiguinho remains among the leading scorers in the MASL, as he enters action this weekend fourth in the league in total points with 32 (20 goals, 12 assists). Seattle's Gordy Gurson leads the league with 46 points (34 goals, 12 assists).
FILLING THE BANK: The Fury is working to compete at every level in the MASL, and that includes attendance. After five home games, Ontario is averaging 1,901 fans per game this season. The Fury have five more home games to chase down last season's attendance number, which was an average of 2,147 in eight league games.
Dancers Get Furious Chance to Perform The Ladies of Ontario Fury's second annual Junior Dance Clinic will take place Jan. 17 at The Talent Factory Dance Studio in Chino. Young dancers will learn a routine and then perform it at halftime of the Fury's game against Turlock that night. For $35, each dancer gets training, a Fury performance shirt and a ticket to that night's game. The clinic is open to children ages 5-18, and no dance experience is necessary. Dancers will be broken up into three experience levels, depending on age and experience. The deadline to register is Jan. 10, and may be done on the Ontario Fury's website at OntarioFury.com.
ABOUT THE HEAT LAST GAME: Lost to Baltimore Blast 29-8 (Multi-point scoring), Jan. 3 NEXT GAME: Sat., Jan 10 at San Diego Sockers, 7:05 p.m.
LAST GAME RECAP: After a tight first period, the undefeated Blast shut down the Heat over the last three periods, limiting the host heat to only two goals over the last 45 minutes in the multi-point scoring game.
INAUGURAL MEETING: Tonight's game will be the first time the Heat have taken on the Fury. But it's not Harrisburg's first trip west. In their third season, Harrisburg took on San Diego in the 2012-13 season. The Heat will face the Sockers for the second time tomorrow night.
SCORING PROBLEMS: Playing in the competitive Eastern Division, the Heat are having troubles hitting the net. Harrisburg comes into the game last in the league in goals scored, with 31. Their defense is at least keeping them close in games, as they have only surrendered 83 goals, which is only the eighth highest total in the league.
STILL COLD: The Heat are one of two teams remaining without a victory this season. Harrisburg is 0-8 this season and have lost 13 consecutive games dating back to last season.
ROOKIE AGAIN: The Heat's head coach, Tarik Walker, is in his first season behind the bench after a successful playing career. Walker retired as the second leading scorer in Baltimore Blast history with 582 points. He also has history playing for the Heat, as he was traded to Harrisburg in the 1994-95 season.
AROUND THE MASL Wichita had a successful weekend in Seattle, sweeping a pair of games from the host Impact (12-4 and 10-5). But getting home was another story. The B-52s were flying home through Denver, when snow grounded their connection. A mere 24 hours later, Wichita made the trip home. ... A week sometimes makes all the difference. Just ask the Dallas Sidekicks. After dispatching Oxford City FC 15-4 on Dec. 27, the 'Kicks returned home last Saturday to host the team from Beaumont. In the interim, several members of now defunct Hidalgo La Fiera signed with the team formerly known as the Texas Strikers. The result? Oxford City defeated the host Sidekicks 5-4, pushing Oxford City a half-game behind Dallas for second in the Southern Division. ... The San Diego Sockers came home from its winless Midwestern road trip and took out its frustrations on the Sacramento Surge. Kraig Chiles scored five times (the 11th time he has scored five or more goals in a game) as the Sockers crushed the Surge, 18-5. Chiles has scored a point in 55 consecutive regular season games. ... While defending PASL champion Chicago won't likely catch defending MISL champ Missouri for first in the Central Division, the Mustangs have turned around their season the last few weeks, climbing back into second place. The Mustangs dropped the Tulsa Revolution 16-2 last Saturday, and forward Hewerton Moreira has played a big role in the turn around. The veteran has seven goals and two assists in the team's last two games.
