Ontario Fury News Release

LAST NIGHT: The Sidekicks outlasted the defending league champion Sockers in a tight, physical contest, that featured a San Diego assistant coach ejected from the field after an on-field altercation. Gabriel Arredondo scored a goal and added two assists to pace the Sidekicks' attack. Jamie Lovegrove had a goal and assist, while Nestor Hernandez, Bronil Koochoie and Patrick Shamu all netted goals for the Sidekicks, who handed San Diego its first home loss since joining the PASL. Goalkeeper Sagu only faced 12 shots on goal, making nine saves for the victory.

A RECORD BREAKING START: The Dallas Sidekicks defeated the Wichita B-52s 15-3 in their 2013-14 season home opener on 11/2/13. Midfielder Nestor Hernandez impressed during his first game as a Sidekick, scoring four goals and one assist. Franck Mbemba was a standout with four goals of his own. 2012-13 scoring leader Jamie Lovegrove logged 5 points with 2 goals and 3 assists. The win gives the Sidekicks franchise a 10-2 overall record when opening the season at home. The team's 15 goals were the most the club has ever scored in a home opener, and the Sidekicks continue their 9-name regular season home winning streak carried over from last season.

LAST SEASON: The Sidekicks returned to professional action last season, winning the Central Division and posting 13-3 overall record. The team was undefeated in the Allen Event Center during the regular season. The Sidekicks proved last season that they were back with a competitive edge, setting multiple all-time franchise records including: most goals in a game (21), largest margin of victory (20), most hat tricks (4), and fastest powerplay goal (1 second). Records for goals in a half (11) and goals in a quarter (7) were tied, equaling marks set on 7/11/1993 against Monterrey La Raza. On 1/27/2013, the Sidekicks broke the San Diego Sockers' 48-0 winning streak that dated back to 12/29/2010 and was the longest winning streak in professional sports in the United States. In postseason honors, Tatu was named PASL Coach of the Year, goalkeeper Sagu was named to the All-League First team, and defender Kiley Couch was named to the All-League Second Team.

WHERE THE TEAM CAME FROM: The original Sidekicks were founded on January 9, 1984 when Dallas Mavericks owner Don Carter purchased the New Jersey Rockets franchise out of bankruptcy in the original Major Indoor Soccer League. Dallas played 19 seasons before folding on September 13, 2004. The Sidekicks were re-established on May 1, 2012 when Ronnie Davis purchased an expansion franchise in the Professional Arena Soccer League.
