Frisco Fighters News Release
Opening this season's home slate, the Fighters continued their early tear with a commanding 35-13 win over the geographical rival Tulsa Oilers, who were playing their inaugural game.
Charles Headen brought the opening kick all the way back for a score, and Frisco (2-0) had a chance to double its lead after the Oilers coughed the ball up two plays into their initial possession.
Instead, a false start penalty and a sack of quarterback TJ Edwards pushed them back and the drive ended on downs. Tulsa (0-1) got on the board with a field goal almost three minutes later, which was answered by a Bryce Crawford kick the Fighters' next time out.
Another Tulsa fumble allowed for Ed Wesley to cap a five-play, 34-yard drive with a short surge as time expired on the opening frame.
The Oilers' two first-half turnovers weren't their only miscues. Jeremy Reynolds missed a field goal in the second quarter and had one blocked by Zaycoven Henderson, as well.
The latter set up another Wesley rushing score that made it a 19-point game at the halftime break.
The teams traded field goal makes in the first seven minutes out of the intermission, then Tulsa scored it first and only touchdown, a 31-yard aerial from Giovanni Sanders to Joshua Crockett.
TJ Edwards punched it in on the ground and Crawford nailed another field goal to round out the scoring in the fourth.
The two teams will cross paths again on May 13 in Tulsa.
