Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Drew Palmisano made 32 saves- including a handful of spectacular stops- and Barry Almeida's third period shorthanded goal proved to be the game winner as the Omaha Lancers defeated the host RoughRiders 3-2 Saturday night.
The Lancers were already up 2-1 when Almeida broke in alone to stretch the lead to two at 6:31 of the third. The Riders would pull back within one while up two men at the 15 minute mark of the third when Matt Donovan blasted the puck home from the top of the right wing circle. Despite emptying the net for en extra attacker in the final minute, the Riders were unable to produce a late equalizer.
The Lancers first took the lead when Joe Diamond scored off a goalmouth scramble at 15:55 of the first period. Ben Arnt extended the margin to 2-0 when his drive broke in off Rider goaltender Brady Hjelle (20 saves) at 4:30 of the second period. The Riders finally beat Palmisano for the first time when Casey Wellman buried a rebound at 12:12 of the second.
