 Waterloo Black Hawks

Did They Know the Playoffs Haven't Started?

March 29, 2008 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Blake Kessel s goal with two minutes remaining was the only thing that prevented the Waterloo Black Hawks and Indiana Ice from going to overtime Saturday in a playoff type game. The Hawks added an empty-netter for a 3-1 win.

Brett Olson scored the only goal in the first 56 minutes of the game. Coming on a three-on-two power play rush, Olson lifted a shot from the left wing circle over Scott Darling s opposite shoulder at 13:12 of the first period.

Robert Martini tied the game on a long shot with 3:11 left to play.

Then Kessel saved the day, walking through the neutral zone and into the Indiana end before firing a glove-side laser beam under the corssbar. Billy Maday scored into an empty net with 39.5 seconds left.

Nick Larson assisted on all three Black Hawk goals and Joe Howe stopped 26 of 27 Indiana shots.

The Hawks wrap up a three-games-in-three-days run Sunday evening in Sioux Falls at 5:05.
