Omaha Beef News Release
OMAHA, NE:The Beef were well prepared for the contest against the Sioux Falls Storm at the home opener at the Slaughter House on March 6. Their physical play looked very impressive but too many mental mistakes proved to plague them and thus a 54-47 defeat to pen the 2010 campaign.
"It doesn't matter how you start but how you finish," voiced General Partner Jeff Sprowls. "We have a highly talented football squad and we disappointed the fans and ourselves with the results. The coaching staff has been working hard coordinating the points to make this a complete team. The new and existing players all need to be on the same page and that did not happen," he concluded.
The lack of discipline was the key factor in the contest. The defensive line countless times were not set and ready to fire off the line as the Storm's offense snapped the ball. This allowed their QB Terrance Bryant way too much time to pick and choose his intended receiver.
The special teams did not play as a team and were primarily ineffective. One positive play was when `Pig' Brown returned the pigskin, reading good blocks as he went down the field.
The offensive attack could have been much more productive. QB Ben Sankey was not as sharp and precise as he has proven in prior years. On his behalf, there were many dropped passes that should have been caught. The run game that is needed to balance out the offense was nonexistent.
Several key bright points included Jeff Souders' 14 tackles and defensive back Pig Browns' 10 tackles. Wide receiver Luke McArdle dazzled the Beef fans with two spectacular catches both for touchdowns.
Coach Pat Pimmel summed up his first game as the Head Coach of the Beef this way. "We got off to slow startagainst a great team. I am proud of these guys (Beef players) because they stayed in the fight and for how bad we played we still had a chance to win in the end. I will take complete responsibility for the loss, and will find players who can do the job and I will be a better coach next game than I was Saturday night. All credit goes to theStorm who won on the road."
The Omaha Beef is proud to be one of the longest running and most consistent indoor teams of all time in any capacity starting their 11th season. Omaha is also the home of the 2009 Dance Team of the Year (Prime Time Dancers) and the Mascot of the year (Sir Loin) of the IFL.
The Beef next game is March 13th at 7:05 p.m. facing the Sioux City Bandits at The Slaughterhouse (Omaha Civic Auditorium).
