
Omaha Beef Running Back R.J. Rollins Named Player of the Week

Omaha, NE - R.J. Rollins, Running back for the Omaha Beef professional indoor football team, has been tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week by United Indoor Football.
Rollins help lead the BEEF to a 54-6 win over the Wichita Wild last Saturday evening at the Kansas Coliseum. In the game, he rushed 18 times for 102 yards and four touchdowns. The 102 yards are a season-high for the team and the UIF. In addition, he caught three passes for 22 yards.
Rollins becomes the fifth BEEF player to be honored as a player of the week by the league. He joins Diezeas Calbert, Ricky Lebeda, Dustin Creager and James McNear (twice).
So far this season, his third with the team, Rollins has carried the ball 96 times for 459 yards, scored fifteen rushing touchdowns and is currently averaging 38.2 yards per game. In addition, Rollins has caught 27 passes for 178 yards and four touchdowns while also returning 30 kicks for 534 yards. He currently leads the team with his 19 touchdowns and 1,171 all-purpose yards.
The award is the third in Rollins' career with the BEEF. He received it twice in 2006 while also being named UIF Offensive Rookie of the Year. This week, Rollins was named to the UIF All-Star team for the second time in his career, also in 2006. A native of Anchorage, Alaska, he played his collegiate football at the University of Minnesota-Crookston in Crookston, Minnesota for the Golden Eagles.
Rollins and his BEEF teammates will next be in action at home on Saturday when they travel to Bloomington, Illinois for a game with the Bloomington Extreme. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum. The BEEF will close out the 2008 regular season at home on June 14th when the Sioux City Bandits come to town for "Orange Out" Night. In addition to the game, the BEEF's pre-game meal will be held at Texas Roadhouse, 520 N. 155th Plaza in Omaha, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Fans are welcome to join the BEEF for their pre-game meal at Texas Roadhouse. Fans are also encouraged to attend the BEEF Boardwalk before every home game, which will have games, music and entertainment out near the entrance of the Omaha Civic Auditorium. Also, on the 14th, the team will be a part of a special fundraiser benefitting Cale Ferrin, the 19-month old son of Justin and Britteny Ferrin of Omaha.
