WEEK 10 PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK AWARDS ANNOUNCED
United Indoor Football is proud to announce Players-of-the-Week awards for Week 10 of the 2005 season. Weekly awards are presented in three categories: Offense, Defense, and Special Teams. .
Week 10 offensive player of the week is Black Hills quarterback Frank Borba. Borba led the Red Dogs to their first win of the season with a 44-34 victory over the Omaha Beef last Saturday night in Rapid City, South Dakota. He went 19-24 passing for 185 yards with two touchdowns. Borba, a 6'2", 195 lb graduate of Menlo College, also scored on a one-yard touchdown run. Borba leads the Red Dogs on the road to Sioux Falls to take on the Storm Saturday night. .
Fort Wayne's Rachman Crable is the recipient of the Week 10 Defensive Player-of-the-Week honor. The 6'3", 300 lb defensive lineman helped the Freedom stay undefeated with a 41-13 road win over the Peoria Rough Riders last Saturday night. Crable, a Ball State University graduate, logged five solo tackles, resulting in a loss of nine yards. The Indianapolis, Indiana, native also recorded a safety, one assisted tackle, and 2.5 sacks. Crable and the Freedom host the FireAnts this weekend in Ft. Wayne.
Wrapping up the Week 10 awards in the Special Teams category is Sioux Falls kick returner/offensive specialist James Jones. The 5'5", 170 lb Northern Colorado alum helped the Storm defeat the Evansville Bluecats 49-42 in overtime last Saturday. Jones racked up 133 yards on five kick returns, including one for a touchdown in the forth quarter to spark the Storm. His 26.6 yards per kick return, and his presence on the field caused the Bluecats to kick the ball out of bounds instead of letting him get his hands on it. Jones and the Storm are at home against the Red Dogs this week at the Sioux Falls Arena.
League MVP's and coaching awards will be handed out at the end of the 2005 UIF season. Stay tuned weekly for additional Players-of-the-Week winners and game highlights. For all team rosters, statistics, scores, highlights and more log onto www.unitedindoorfootball.com.
