
Omaha Beef Defeat Sioux City 34-9

Omaha, NE - Led by a dominating defensive effort, the Omaha Beef professional indoor football team earned a decisive 34-9 win over the Sioux City Bandits Saturday evening at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
With the win, the BEEF finish the regular season with a 10-4 record and will begin the 2008 UIF playoffs on the road. Omaha will head to Billings for the second time this season and will play the Outlaws Saturday, June 21st, at 7 p.m. Mountain time. The win is the second of the season over the Bandits as the BEEF also won, 53-47, on May 10th in Sioux City.
After stopping Sioux City on their first possession, Omaha got the ball with 10:32 remaining in the first quarter. Four plays later, James McNear found Javon Bell in the end zone on a four-yard touchdown reception and Ricky Lebeda's extra point put the BEEF up 7-0. Omaha scored again on their next drive, courtesy of Lebeda's 34-yard field goal, going up 10-0 at the end of the first quarter. Sioux City scored their first points of the game three plays into the second quarter when Chris Hicks made a 44-yard field goal to bring the Bandits with seven at 10-3. On the ensuing BEEF possession, McNear and Bell connected on a six-yard touchdown, which coupled with Lebeda's extra point, made the lead 17-3. The teams would exchange four possessions before halftime as the score remained 17-3.
In the third quarter, McNear engineered a five-play, 30-yard drive that finished when he ran one in from a yard out to make the advantage 24-3 in favor of Omaha. On the subsequent Sioux City possession, Dustin Creager intercepted Sioux City's Chad Kapanui and gave the BEEF the ball at the Bandits' 16-yard line. Three plays later, McNear ran another in, this time from four yards out, to put Omaha up 31-3. The score would remain the same as the fourth quarter began. Lebeda concluded the BEEF's scoring for the evening on a 44-yard field goal with 6:16 remaining in the fourth quarter as Omaha now led 34-3. Sioux City scored their only touchdown of the game on their next possession when Tim Brown ran in from 23 yards out to make the final score 34-9.
McNear led the BEEF offensively, tallying 107 yards of total offense (46 rushing and 61 passing) and by having a hand in four touchdowns (two rushing and two passing). The defense was led by Creager who led with seven tackles and his interception. Also, the team mad six tackles for loss and four sacks while also recovering a fumble, breaking up five passes and blocking a field goal try. On special teams, Lebeda contributed 10 points on his two field goals (34 and 46 yards) and four extra points while Reicko Jones returned two kicks for 39 yards.
The BEEF are in their ninth year of Professional Indoor Football in Omaha, NE. Home games are played March through June.
