Oliver Tosses Complete Game Shutout, Wild Things Lose 1-0

July 26, 2015 - Frontier League (FL)
Washington Wild Things News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN-Ernesto Zaragoza held Evansville to just one run on Sunday afternoon at Bosse Field, but the lone run proved to be enough as the Otters held on to defeat the Wild Things 1-0 in the series finale. Will Oliver tossed a complete game shutout en route to his eighth win of the season.

The Otters run came in the bottom of the fifth inning after Zaragoza surrendered three walks in the frame. A walk to first baseman Nick Balog with the bases loaded scored left fielder John Schultz to give Evansville the slim lead. On the night, Zaragoza picked up eight strikeouts and gave up just three hits in his five innings of work.

For Evansville, Oliver was just as stingy in giving up runs, as Washington was held to just five hits on the evening. The Wild Things threatened with runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh thanks to singles from third baseman Matt Peters, first baseman Carter Bell and left fielder Andrew Heck, but Oliver was able to pitch his way out of each situation. He finished his complete game performance with nine strikeouts.

A scoreless ninth for Washington solidified the Sunday afternoon victory and series sweep for Evansville.

The Wild Things will return to Frontier League action on Wednesday, July 29 when they play host to the River City Rascals in a midweek doubleheader. First pitch from game one of the twinbill is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. For tickets, please visit the Wild Things front office, call 724-250-9555 or visit www.washingtonwildthings.com.
