ThunderBolts Take Game Three against Slammers

Joliet, IL- Behind fourteen hits including two big flies, Windy City ThunderBolts (23-36) take the rubber match of a three-game set against the Joliet Slammers (24-36) 14-5 on Sunday.

Windy City scored quickly against righty Adam Panayotovich. CF Coco Johnson led off the firt with a double and scored on a DH Mike Torres single to make it 1-0. The ThunderBolts loaded the bases for SS Ransom LaLonde, who cranked a grand slam, a major punch to the Slammers gut, putting the ThunderBolts up 5-0.

Joliet started to chip away in the bottom of the frame. In his return to the lineup, CF Charlie White singled to lead off. DH Nate Roberts did the same to put two on. A double steal moved the pair into scoring position. 3B Mike Garza grounded out to short which scored White to cut the lead to 5-1 after one inning of play.

The ThunderBolts added their lead in the third. RF Max White 3B Alex Chittenden and LF Cody Keefer all singled, White would score on Keefer's hit to make it 6-1. SS Ransom LaLonde skied a ball to the outfield deep enough for Chittenden to score extending the visitor lead to six. That sacrifice fly would chase Adam Panayotovich from the mound and Hunter Ackerman came in relief. He walked 2B Marquis Riley and give up a single to CF Coco Johnson that scored Keefer. The inning finally came to a close with the score 8-1 ThunderBolts.

Joliet made some noise in their half of the third when 1B Nate Roberts cranked out his sixth home run, second in as many games to make it 8-2.

The ThunderBolts answered with three runs in the forth inning. Gallagher walked and White singled to put two aboard. Tanis knocked in Gallagher while Keefer drove home White. The visiting team scored one more run with Luke Crumley in, extending their lead to 11-2.

The home runs kept coming from both teams. LF Phil Bates crushed his third long ball of the year in the fourth to cut the T-Bolts lead to 11-3. Keefer homered for Windy City in the sixth to get the run back.

Joliet would muster a few more runs in their half of the eight. After three consecutive singles by Mike Garza 1B Carlos Lopez and Phil Bates the Slammers had the bases juiced for C Jack Cleary. A comebacker resulted in a 1-2-3 double play, scoring a run while leaving two aboard for RF Hunter Ridge. Ridge singled up the middle scoring Garza and Lopez to make it 12-5.

Windy City kept it going in the ninth. 2B Marquis Riley walked. CF Coco Johnson singled. Mike Torres walked. 1B Austin Gallagher singled to score Riley to push the lead. RF Max White grounded a ball to Alfredo Rodriguez at short but beat out the tail end of a double play. Johnson crossed the plate to make it 14-5, which would ultimately be the final scor.

Our Merchants and Manufacturers Bank Player of the Game was Nate Roberts. He homered for the second straight game while going 2-for-3 with two walks.
