Seattle Reign FC News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - OL Reign has signed defender Sam Hiatt through the 2023 season, the club announced today. Per league and club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Sam is a talented young player with great potential," said OL Reign head coach Farid Benstiti. "While her injury prevented her from playing much this season, we saw her quality in training every day. We are very happy to have her with us for many seasons and know she will grow into an important player for our club."
After rehabilitation from injury kept Hiatt away from the squad during the NWSL Challenge Cup, Hiatt joined the team for the NWSL Fall Series. She made her debut on October 17, playing the final 11 minutes in a 2-0 win against Utah to help the club secure three points in its final match of the year.
Hiatt was selected by OL Reign with the 33rd overall pick in the 2020 NWSL College Draft. The defender, who won two national titles with Stanford, also has extensive youth national team experience, including captaining the U.S. U20s at the 2018 U20 World Cup in France.
The Newcastle native is also a former Washington State Gatorade Player of the Year and was the 2015 3A Player of the Year while playing for Seattle Preparatory School.
"I am extremely grateful for so many reasons to have the opportunity to play for OL Reign," Hiatt said. "Having spent a couple months with this organization, I'm even more excited to be a part of this team because I know I'm in an environment where I can continue to learn and grow as a player and a person. I'm ready to continue to work hard and do whatever I can to help the team."
