Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

Colorado Springs threw everything it had at Oklahoma during Saturday's 15-12 loss at Security Service Field. It even threw infielder Kenny Perez.

Trailing 15-3 in the eighth inning, the Sky Sox put Perez on the mound, his first career appearance at pitcher. The inexperienced right-hander used a fastball that ranged from 73-to-81 miles per hour to keep the slugging RedHawks off the board for the final two innings and give the home team a chance to make a miracle comeback.

The Sky Sox did rally furiously, scoring nine runs in the final two innings, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early damage done by the visiting team's lineup.

Oklahoma sent 15 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs in a second inning highlighted by Ryan Roberts' two home runs, a three-run shot and a grand slam.

Nelson Cruz added another home run, his 36th of the season in the fifth inning, and produced four RBI in a 3-for-5 effort.

Josh Towers (5-7) took the loss after lasting just two innings. He gave up 10 hits and 11 runs.

Tommy Hunter (2-2) evened his record with a stellar performance. He left after pitching seven innings of three-run baseball.

Humberto Cota made his first appearance since May, and went 2-for-5, including a two-run blast in the ninth inning that capped the game's scoring.

The Sky Sox and RedHawks continue their four-game set with a 1:15 game Sunday.
