Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
Colorado Springs put the tying run in scoring position with one out Sunday, but couldn't push it across the plate with two chances as the Sky Sox fell to Oklahoma 4-2, in front 5,151 fans at Security Service Field.
Chris Frey knocked a pinch-hit single in front of Adam Melhuse's pinch-hit walk. The runners each moved up a base with one out when Kevin Richardson let a ball get past him at the plate. But Bill White struck out Cory Sullivan and Christian Colonel to end the game.
For the second day in a row, the Sky Sox got on the board first when Jeff Dragicevich scored on Sean Barker's ground out in the second inning.
The lead was short lived as the RedHawks plated two runs of their own in the next inning. Jason Ellison hit an RBI double before Nelson Cruz knocked in the second run on a force out to third base. Cruz also added another home run, his second of the series and 37th of the season.
Josh Hall (0-1) made his first appearance for the Sky Sox and lasted six innings. He allowed three runs, including a sixth-inning home run to John Mayberry that bounced off the batter's eye in center field.
Brandon McCarthy, on a rehab assignment, pitched well enough to win. He just didn't pitch long enough. The 2001 graduate of Cheyenne Mountain High School lasted just 4 2/3 innings and allowed one run before being lifted with two outs and the bases empty in the fifth inning. He struck out five and walked three batters.
Kameron Loe (3-4) earned the win in relief. He gave up one run over 2 1/3 innings.
White picked up his third save of the season.
The Sky Sox and RedHawks continue their four-game series Monday night with a 7:05 MT game. Jason Hirsh (2-3, 5.24) is scheduled to get the ball for the Sky Sox opposite Elizardo Ramirez (9-4, 4.23).
