Oklahoma City Comets News Release

LAST GAME: The Royals used the long ball to beat the RedHawks 5-2 last night, hitting four home runs to bring home all their offense. Eric Hurley allowed three home runs over six innings, but left with Oklahoma trailing 3-2. Omaha knocked two home runs off reliever Kaz Fukumori in the seventh to extend the lead to its final margin. Mike Aviles hit two of the four home runs to pace the Royals, which now trail Iowa by a half game for the division lead.

STREAK BROKEN:

Taylor Teagarden's hitting streak was snapped at 15 games with an 0-3 performance last night. His streak was the longest by any RedHawk this season, surpassing Jason Ellison's 12-game string in April. Teagarden hit .347 during the streak and raised his batting average from .111 to .285 during the run. He did walk once last night, however, to extend his on-base streak to 16 games.

ONE DONE AND ONE MOVES ON:

Ryan Roberts extended his hitting streak to eight games with a first inning single yesterday, and advanced his on-base streak to 17 consecutive games dating back to May 8. Roberts also has a road on-base streak running at 17 straight games.

BENJAMIN TRANSFERRED:

Casey Benjamin was transferred to Double-A Frisco early today. The shortstop hit .202 with three home runs and ten runs batted in over 37 games for the RedHawks this season. Benjamin began the season as the everyday shortstop, playing in 25 of Oklahoma's 27 games in April, but had only played in 12 of the RedHawks 25 games this month. This move creates one open roster spot for Oklahoma.

MURRAY GOES AGAIN:

A.J. Murray will take the hill for Oklahoma today. Murray's last start was a gem, when he allowed just one eighth inning run in a complete game, 1-0 loss at Iowa. Eric Patterson doubled to lead off the inning, stole third, and scored on a single by Matt Murton. Murray is tied for second in the league with two complete games, although neither has gone nine innings. He pitched six innings in the RedHawks rain-shortened win over Nashville on April 9.

OMAHA AT A GLANCE:

Mike Aviles had his first two home run day since July 21 last season, when he hit two at Rosenblatt Stadium against Memphis... Today's starter Matt Wright faced the RedHawks once last season, earning the win on July second at home. Wright allowed two runs on three hits while striking out ten in the Royals 9-6 victory in Omaha.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:

Texas doubled up Tampa Bay 12-6... Bakersfield lost 5-4 at Inland Empire... Frisco and Clinton each had Tuesday off.

DOT-DOT-DOT:

The RedHawks are tied with four other teams for the fewest wins in the month of May. The ten victories match Albuquerque and New Orleans within the division, as well as Salt Lake and Tucson... Nate Gold has struck out at least once in ten consecutive games, and has amassed 17 strikeouts total during that span, raising his tally from 29 over his first 35 games to 46 after 45 games played.

TIME CHANGE:

The RedHawks have announced one time change that differs from the pocket schedules. Oklahoma's game on June 1 with Omaha is now slated for a 2:05 pm first pitch.

ON THE AIR:

Every game this season can be heard on the RedHawks Radio Network, led by broadcaster Jim Byers for the ninth season, and joined by Adam Marco during each homestand. Fox Sports Radio AM 1340 in Oklahoma City will serve as the flagship station in 2008. The network affiliates this season are KSIW 1450 AM in Woodward, KXCA 1380 AM in Lawton, KPNS 1350 AM in Duncan, KTJS 1420 AM in Hobart, KGFF 1450 AM in Shawnee, and KWSH 1260 AM in Wewoka. Each game will also be broadcast on the internet through the audio link at www.oklahomaredhawks.com.
