OKC Rallies for 3-2 OT Win over Texas
February 24, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release
Andrew Miller netted his 20th goal of the season in overtime to lift the Oklahoma City Barons to a come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Texas Stars Tuesday night at the Cox Convention Center.
In a 2-2 game with 3:27 left in overtime and the teams skating at 3-on-3, Curtis Hamilton dished the puck to Miller near the left circle of the Texas zone, where Miller fired a wrist shot that glanced off Stars goalie Jussi Rynnas and trickled into the net for the Barons' AHL-record 13th overtime win of the season.
Oklahoma City began its comeback late in the second period with Texas holding a 2-0 advantage. At 18:53 of the frame, Kellen Jones found Brandon Davidson in the high Texas slot, where Davidson ripped a slap shot that sailed past the glove of Rynnas, cutting Texas' lead to 2-1.
After an interference penalty to the Stars' Derek Meech at 15:30 of the third, the Barons knotted the game at two on the power play when Miller took a shot from the left circle that rebounded off Rynnas, right to Jason Williams, who flipped the puck into the vacated side of the Texas net.
Texas grabbed the early lead at 1:39 of the first period when Scott Valentine created a breakaway opportunity for Eric Faille with a pass up ice that split Barons defenders. Faille skated in on OKC goalie Laurent Brossoit and skidded a shot through the legs of the Barons net minder to give Texas a 1-0 advantage.
Julius Honka extended the Stars' lead at 9:33 of the second period, when he grabbed a loose puck in the Texas zone and skated past the Oklahoma City blue line before unloading a slap shot that glided past Brossoit.
The win gave the Barons their third consecutive win over Texas and improved Oklahoma City's season record against the defending Calder Cup champions to 7-4-1-0.
The Barons are back in action Friday, Feb. 27, when they face the San Antonio Rampage in a 7 p.m. start at the Cox Convention Center.
