OKC Energy FC News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY (July 31, 2015) - For their inaugural season at the newly renovated Taft Stadium, OKC Energy FC is offering recycling at every home game, thanks to a partnership with Republic Services, an industry leader in recycling and solid waste. To date, Energy FC fans have diverted about 3,100 pounds of recyclable materials including aluminum cans, plastic bottles and paper products from landfills by using the event boxes placed throughout the stadium.
"As a professional sports organization, we recognize the opportunity to be a positive force for change in the community," said Energy FC co-owner Bob Funk Jr. "Our organization is rooted in a deep pride for where we live and play. It's a pride felt by our players, coaches, management and fans. We knew that given the opportunity, Energy FC supporters would bring the same passion to environmental stewardship they bring to cheering on our team."
As part of a partnership with Energy FC, Republic donated waste and recycling containers for the entire season and is sponsoring All-in-One recycling as well as waste removal for all home games. For Republic, the sponsorship represents an effort to increase awareness of and access to recycling throughout the Greater Oklahoma City area, with a goal of increasing participation long term.
"We are proud to bring recycling to Taft Stadium this season, and thrilled to team up with the Energy FC to make an even greater environmental impact in our community," said Jeff Kintzle, area president of Republic Services. "Energy FC fans are responding in a major way this season, showing impressive levels of recycling participation so far. We believe many Energy FC fans are carrying these sustainable behaviors forward into the community, influencing family members, coworkers and neighbors, and creating tremendous potential to increase recycling participation throughout Oklahoma City."
Republic Services of Oklahoma employs 126 people who serve more than 80 municipalities and commercial and industrial customers statewide. Republic operates five offices, four transfer stations and five landfills located throughout the state.
Each Energy FC home game brings more than 4,000 fans to Taft Stadium. The Energy have played nine home games so far and are scheduled to play another five in the regular season, including the next home game Friday, July 31 vs. Arizona United SC.
