Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC kept their unbeaten home streak alive with a crucial win over LA Galaxy II. Switchbacks FC downed LA Galaxy II 2-0 on Friday night.

This was a big win, as LA Galaxy II and Switchbacks FC are two of the top teams fighting for first place in the USL's Western Conference.

"Tonight was a great overall performance against a good team," said Switchbacks FC Team Captain Luke Vercollone. "We were very confident and will ride this momentum into Wednesday's game."

Vercollone (#4) earned the Switchbacks FC's two goals against LA Galaxy II. The first came early in the 22nd minute off of a perfect cross from Miguel Gonzalez (#10). The second goal was scored from a PK in the 83rd minute.

"Leading up to this game, I asked the guys to take their game to another level and they did," said Switchbacks FC Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "Defensively we're looking at the best game so far this season. Tonight was a big win and we are going to keep it going."

This was the fourth shutout at home for the Switchbacks FC, thanks to the team's strong defensive showing.

"This was a crucial win at a very important point of the season," said Switchbacks FC Goalkeeper Devala Gorrick. "We are going to keep striving for the number one spot."

Switchbacks FC (11-6-2, 35 points) now stand one point behind LA Galaxy II (11-6-3, 36 points) and Seattle Sounders FC 2 (11-6-3, 36 points) at the top of the USL Western Conference.

Switchbacks FC hope to jump ahead of both teams on Wednesday, August 5th when they play Tulsa Roughnecks FC at Sand Creek Stadium. The match starts at 7 p.m. Come out and show your stripes!
