FC Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - FC Montreal is playing the first of three away games on Saturday, at 7:30pm, against the Charleston Battery, at the MUSC Health Stadium.
Montreal was back home briefly to train after a two game trip where the team earned three points of a possibility of six, winning 1-0 in Toronto before losing 2-0 against Charlotte. The team is now leaving for a 10-day period to face Charleston, Louisville and Saint Louis.
"It's the first of three games on the road, so it's important to get a good result to get the momentum going for the next games on the road," said defender Mitchel Bringolf. "It's important to stay confident. We see that what we do is working. We need to focus on the good performances we've had recently."
FC Montreal earned its first USL win against the Charleston Battery by a 1-0 score on May 14, as midfielder Louis Béland-Goyette scored the only goal of the game.
"The first game will set the tone for the two others," explained head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. "Our first win was against Charleston. Players know that even against the best USL teams, we have the opportunity to take points. Now, we also know that it won't be easy."
The Battery is third in the Eastern Conference standings, but the team is having a tough time, losing its last two games without scoring, both by 1-0 scores on the road against Toronto FC II and the Rochester Rhinos. Dane Kelly is their leading scorer with 9 goals, ranked fourth in the USL. He's also the player with the most shots in the league with 63.
This week, FC Montreal announced the signing of Cameroon native Jacques Haman, as well as eight Impact U18 players. All of them will be eligible for the rest of the season.
