February 15, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa - Jason Williams and Andrew Miller each had a goal and an assist, and Curtis Hamilton netted the game-winning goal for the Oklahoma City Barons, who defeated the Iowa Wild 5-3 Sunday at Wells Fargo Arena.
With the score tied 3-3 at the 5:31 mark of the third period, Hamilton scored the game's decisive goal when he intercepted a Wild pass in the Iowa zone and quickly flipped a shot past Wild goalie John Curry.
Brad Hunt added a pair of goals for the Barons - his first tying the game at one late in the first period, and his second being an empty-netter solidifying Oklahoma City's win with two seconds remaining in the game.
Kurtis Gabriel scored two goals for Iowa.
Iowa took a 1-0 lead at 6:03 of the first period when Gabriel corralled a loose puck behind the Barons net and sent a backhanded shot towards the crease that banked off the back of Oklahoma City goalie Laurent Brossoit and in.
After Hunt tied the game with a one timer from the right circle on the Barons power play at 18:01 of the first, Iowa regained the lead one minute, 40 seconds later when Gabriel took a feed Olivier Archambault in front of the Barons net and shuffled the puck past Brossoit.
At the 7:27 mark of the second period, Miller tied the game at two for the Barons when he took a pass from Bogdan Yakimov near the Iowa blue line and skated into the Wild zone before sending a wrist shot from the right circle that sailed over the glove of Curry.
See-saw scoring continued at 10:12 of the second when Marc Hagel sent a pass up ice that created an odd-man rush for the Wild, with Brett Sutter scoring on a wrist shot from the left circle that beat Brossoit on his stick side for a 3-2 Iowa lead.
The Barons tied the game at three at 11:29 of the frame when Williams sent a steep-angle shot from the low left circle that careened off the skate of Iowa's Christian Folin and under the pads of Curry.
After Hamilton's goal gave the Barons a 4-3 lead, Hunt's empty net goal came on a late power play with Iowa's Danny Syvret serving a tripping minor assessed at 19:13 of the third.
The Barons next return home and face the Adirondack Flames in a 7 p.m. start on Friday, Feb. 20 at the Cox Convention Center.
