OKC Dodgers Shut out in Opener
May 7, 2021 - Pacific Coast League (PCL)
Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Playing their first game since Sept. 2, 2019 following a canceled 2020 season, the Oklahoma City Dodgers were shutout by the Round Rock, 6-0, Thursday at Dell Diamond. The Express had five pitchers combine on a five-hit shutout. Charles Leblanc and John Hicks each cranked two-run homers for the Express. Josiah Gray impressed in his Triple-A debut on the mound for OKC, racking up a career-high 10 strikeouts over five innings.
Of Note:
-OKC starting pitcher Josiah Gray notched 10 strikeouts in his Triple-A debut to set a new overall career high. He allowed two runs and three hits over five innings, surrendering both runs on a two-run homer with two outs in the second inning. Gray retired 10 of the final 11 batters he faced, and during the stretch he tallied six strikeouts with the only batter to reach doing so on an infield single.
-Three OKC pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts over eight innings of work. Along with Gray, James Pazos notched two strikeouts and Andrew Schwaab added three. During the team's last season in 2019, the Dodgers set a team record for strikeouts and led the league for the third time in four years.
-Rangel Ravelo led the OKC offense, going 2-for-4 with two doubles. He was the only Dodger to finish with a multi-hit game.
-The Dodgers went 0-for-12 with runners on base, including 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
-OKC was shutout on Opening Night for the first time since 2015, when they were also blanked by Round Rock (2-0). The team fell to 10-13 overall in season openers during the team's Bricktown era (since 1998).
What's Next: The Dodgers look to enter both the win column and the run column when they meet Round Rock in the second game of the inaugural Red Dirt Rumble Friday night.
